Let’s Pretend Players is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, dedicated to providing the best in children’s musical theater to Albuquerque and surrounding areas.
Founded in 2000 by Sylvia Spicer Ward, Let’s Pretend has staged productions including: Alice in Wonderland (2001), Magical Land of Oz (2002), Nutcracker (2002, 2004, 2005), Cinderella’s Glass Slipper (2003), Sleepy Hollow (2003), Beauty and the Beast (2004) and Snow White (2005).
During its first performance season in 2001, Let’s Pretend Players staged Alice in Wonderland at numerous schools, hospitals and at a fundraising event co-sponsored by Comcast Cable and the City of Albuquerque.
In December 2002, Director Sylvia Spicer Ward felt that in order to embrace the total theatrical experience, our young audiences needed to be in a theater.
Let’s Pretend has since staged its magnificent productions at the legendary Kimo Theater, in downtown Albuquerque.
Let’s Pretend Players offers theatrical instruction for children 6-14 years of age in the Winter Term, Summer Term, and Fall Term. Winter and Fall are culminated with the performance of a selected theatrical work, such as the ones mentioned above.
Both young audiences and seasoned theater-goers agree, Let’s Pretend’s productions are a feast for the eyes. With sets designed in stunning colors, and elaborate costumes, the young performers take the audience on a journey far away from Albuquerque and in to the vibrant world straight from the pages of the story which inspired it.
